A PROPOSITO DI EMIGRAZIONE…

ABOUT IMMIGRATION ...

The following poem was written by Vicente Gerbasi, whose parents emigrated from a small town near the city of Salerno to the distant Venezuela. The text provides a starting point for reflection on the ongoing conflict that characterizes the mood of migrants: the contrast between the desire to leave in search of a better life and longing for homeland, of their affections, the joys experienced in their homeland. A trip to and from the unknown the future, which attracts and frightens. Moving ahead or falling behind in their small, but known universe? Open the doors or leave them shut with their reassurance? The overwhelming sentiment in these lines, however, is nostalgia.

To hear it in No matter where we start or where you try to get a thousand pitfalls: nostalgia is a universal feeling inseparably linked to the remote, even more than fear or desire to always do well part of the baggage.

My father, the emigrant.

About the subject under consideration, we suggest reading the book by Melania Mazzucco entitled " Life : a moving story of emigration at the dawn of the twentieth century, to the land where, as always, you can realize your dreams: the United States d’America.
