February 5, 2011 - MEETING WITH The ESPERANTO: THE LANGUAGE THAT WANTS TO EMBRACE IL MONDO.
Sabato cinque febbraio ho avuto il piacere di rispondere positivamente all’invito del Professor Antonio De Cristofaro e di accompagnare i ragazzi della classe terza al loro incontro con l’Esperanto. Già consapevoli della sua esistenza e della sua definizione, gli allievi si sono docilmente lasciati prendere per mano, alla più profonda esplorazione di questa lingua che persegue l’ambizioso obiettivo di abbracciare il mondo abbattendone le barriere linguistiche. Ad oltre cento anni dalla nascita di questa lingua transnazionale, aumenta continuamente il numero di uomini e donne che, nel mondo, ne condividono il patrimonio.

In una società sempre più multietnica, globalizzata e caratterizzata da significativi flussi migratori, è necessario trovare punti d’incontro tra persone che hanno bisogno di convivere, di comprendere i rispettivi bisogni, di scoprirsi fratelli, di rispondere negativamente a chi vede in questi cambiamenti storici e sociali una minaccia per la pace.
Il miglior sistema per farlo non è forse il ricorso ad una lingua che affonda le proprie radici in molte altre lingue, rispettandole tutte? Si tratta, infatti, di una lingua unica in its multiplicity, and daughter product of a thousand hues, as is every man.

Tuttavia non si può generalizzare, perché i ragazzi sono anche coloro che più di tutti gli altri hanno fame di un futuro migliore. Tra le mura di una scuola si è cercato di far vedere loro un’alternativa ai modelli che oggi sembrano dominanti:l’egoismo, l’individualismo, la chiusura nei confronti dell’altro. Si è tentato di mostrare ed aprire una possibile finestra sull’essenza del cuore umano, attraverso la “lingua che spera”, come loro sperano.
